It’s 7am. It’s 8 degrees. Your heating isn’t working. Before you call anyone, run through this quick checklist — you might save yourself a service call fee.

Quick checklist — do these first

  • Is the system actually set to HEAT mode? (Sun symbol on the remote, not snowflake)
  • Is the set temperature above the current room temperature?
  • Are the batteries in the remote dead? (Try replacing them)
  • Has the circuit breaker tripped? (Check your switchboard)
  • Is the filter blocked? (Pull out the return air panel and check)
  • Is there an error code on the display? (Write it down)

If none of those fix it — call us. We’ll ask you these questions on the phone anyway, so having the answers ready means we can diagnose faster and often give you an accurate repair estimate before we arrive.

What the most common error codes mean

  • E1 / P1 — High pressure fault. Usually a blocked filter or outdoor unit obstruction.
  • E3 / P3 — Low pressure fault. Often low refrigerant.
  • F8 / U8 — Communication error between indoor and outdoor unit.
  • L3 / E6 — Outdoor unit fault. Could be ice build-up or compressor issue.

Every brand uses slightly different codes — Daikin, Mitsubishi, Fujitsu and Actron all have their own system. If you call us with the brand and code, we can usually tell you what’s wrong before we even get there.
