Your reverse cycle air conditioner is running but blowing cold air in heating mode. This is one of the most common winter calls we get across Sydney — and in most cases it can be diagnosed and fixed the same day.
Why Is My Air Conditioner Not Heating?
- Low refrigerant — the most common cause. The system runs but can’t transfer heat efficiently. Needs a top-up by a licensed technician.
- Dirty filter — restricts airflow and causes the system to work harder for less output. Check and clean the return air filter first.
- Faulty reversing valve — the valve that switches the system between cooling and heating mode. When it fails, the system stays in cooling mode even when set to heat.
- Outdoor unit fault — ice build-up on the outdoor coil in very cold weather, blocked outdoor fan, or compressor fault.
- Wrong mode selected — make sure the controller is set to HEAT (sun symbol) not COOL (snowflake).
