One of the most common questions we get from homeowners in Sydney winter. The answer is simpler than you’d think — and getting it right can save you significant money on your power bill.
The Recommended Setting
Set your heating to 18–20°C. Most people find 19°C comfortable for heating. Every degree above this adds approximately 10% to your running costs.
A common mistake is setting the thermostat to 24–25°C hoping the room heats up faster. It doesn’t — the system heats at the same rate regardless of the set temperature. All you’re doing is running it longer and spending more.
Fan Speed Settings
Set the fan to auto for heating. This lets the system control airflow based on the room temperature. High fan speed in heating mode can feel cold initially because the system needs time to warm the coil before pushing warm air through.
Louvre Direction
Set the louvres to point downward in heating mode. Heat rises — so directing airflow down towards the floor circulates warm air through the whole room rather than letting it pool at the ceiling.
If your system isn’t reaching the set temperature or takes a very long time to heat the room, it may need a service or recharge. Call Jim on 0416 931 871.
